The Modern Manufacturing Model MS-1400 pouch machine, uses state of the art technology to improve productivity while reducing downtime and maintenance costs. The machine outlined below is designed to produce high quality rectangular and stand-up pouches, with or without zipper, from a single web of material.

Film Conditions
Less than 1/16th inch (1.5mm) cumulative print variation over 30 feet (9 meters).Medium to high slip on the seal layer (inner PE) to ensure proper foldingHigh contrast eye marks 1/4 x 1/2 inch (6 x 12mm) minimum. Preferably 3/8 x 3/4 (9.5 x 19mm)Laminated roll stock preferred, extrusion mounted or adhesive. Material weight will affect machine speeds, especially foil structures.Co-extrusions can be run, but they must be asymmetrical.Melt point differential between the outer and inner layers. The lower the differential the more difficult the material will be to run.
Functions
A powerful microprocessor controls all functions of the machine. By using a microprocessor, the web movement function is separated from the sealing functions of the machine. This enables the machine to achieve higher running speeds and improved seal quality. An advanced program and a touchscreen operator interface allow for fast changeover and ease of operation.A full-color human-to-machine interface (HMI) with a 10.4 inch (264 mm) viewing screen is provided.The parameters associated with each machine function can be accessed by the operator through the HMI. Important parameters, such as sealing time and web movement speed, can be changed even when the machine is running.A skip-feed cycle feature is provided so that wider bags can be run. This cycle is unlike skip- feed cycles on mechanically driven machines in that it uses only the exact time needed for each part of the cycle. Bags up to 600 inches can be produced using this feature.The microprocessor has the capability of storing recipes for up to 99 different jobs for quick retrieval and accurate setup.A Feature Enable function will allow you to enable added features after the machine has been installed in your plant. This program feature ensures that you can add additional hardware to your machine without the expense of altering programming.Temperature control and settings are built into the machine controller, allowing for temperature set point alarms, thermocouple and heater failure alarms and auto-tuning functions for each zone of temperature control.An automatic line-clear function is included. This feature will allow the knife to skip a cycle during machine startup to ensure no unsealed product is ever packed.A machine delay-time function is included to allow the machine to be set up at lower speeds. Once pouch quality is verified the wait time can be removed for high speed operation.Built in second cut allows for cutting out plate breaks between printing and eliminating hooks on corner rounded pouches, second cut is touch screen settable by the operatorMicro adjust knife position allows the operator to finely adjust the knife position while the machine is in operation correcting for slight set-up alignments in registration cut off positioningToolless change overs include all sealing dies, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) curtains, and operator required adjustments thru the entire machine design.
Intelaseal Servo Sealing System
The intelligent sealer is a servo actuated system with built-in functional settings allowing the operator to choose, which feature is needed for the films and features in the pouch or bag they are running.This system is allowing the production floor to solve the functional issues with better quality product output while reducing the set-up times and scrapAs with all of Moderns Machines, all seal heads are independently controllable, for sealing dwell times.
Seal Compression Distance
The seal compression is adjustable from a full high force full stroke compression on the films, or pouch bag features to be compressed gradually thru multiple seal heads with multiple compression distances.This becomes a true life saver and efficiency when running high exposure films that will fracture in the sealing process, especially when sealing in additional features like zipper.The seal compression is adjustable from full depth up to .060 inches above full compression, allowing things like zipper to be flattened progressively, thru the pouch making processThis is all done electronically thru an operator HMI, so the operator can adjust each seal head independently and return back to previous settings without tools or guessing what mechanical position to set the seal head at.All of this reduces set-up errors, set-up time, and eliminates the ability to adjust the seal heads out of alignment for making quality seals.
