Material Material
Silicon Nitride/Aluminum Nitride/Aluminum OxideSialon® is a solid solution of Silicon Nitride with Aluminum Oxide and Aluminum Nitride. It exhibits high strength at high temperatures, is hard, tough and wear resistant. It is chemically inert and thermal shock resistant. These properties all make Sialon® ideal for foundry use, including use as containers for molten metals. Sialon® is non-wetting for most non-ferrous metals up to 1000C. It has found use as thermocouple sheaths and it's high wear resistance lends itself to components such as extrusion tools drawing dies and plugs. Sialon® can be machined as for Tungsten Carbide and the surface finish improved by diamond grinding.

CeramicCeramics are non-metallic, non-organic materials. They exhibit excellent resistance to high temperatures. Although they have comparatively low densities, they are extremely hard but tend to be brittle. They show good resistance to both abrasives and chemicals.
